I saw that disgusting little hatefest that the province did on VANACT after the pancake breakfast.

So ridiculous that anyone would pretend that was journalism.

Basically the paper was providing an open forum for anonymous province readers to make threats against activists and encourage police to break up actions with extreme force. It was really slimey … made me very angry.

Plus their rhetoric is always 50 years out of date, which tells you something about the demographic. “Get a job hippies!” etc.

Two points:

1. Province readers are by-and-large full of hot air, incapable of anything beyond vitriol so don’t let them intimidate you.

2. Just one more reason to come out and support the tent city when the time comes.

Should anyone follow through on these cowardly threats (which I sincerely doubt) I will be there to have a friendly chat with them and look forward to the opportunity.

The Downtown East Side is one of the oldest arts communities in Vancouver and has long been a Mecca for emerging artist, unconventional political thought and community activism. Over the course of the weekend there will be open studios, live events and entertainment.

Great news. It’s good to see a mobilization of housing activists pressure for more affordable housing. But what about also asking governments to institute rent controls? It’s rough out there for everyone looking for housing and the government can also put caps on the amount that can be charged for accomodations. As I am sure you know, rental prices are truly out of control these days, all across Canada, and rent increases do not match wage increases.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that there is an anti-Nazi demo this Sunday morning at Braid skytrain station.

White supremacists are marching so we are having a counter demo. It is being promoted as non-violent and family friendly. Their demo begins at 12. Ours begins at 11. People should arrive in groups and masks are encouraged.

If this is something that you feel is worth promoting (and I sure hope it is), then get back to me via email and I can send you a jpeg of the flyer to post on your blog.
